What We Look for in a Mentor

At Young Leaders Youth Services, we believe the best mentors are those who lead with compassion, integrity, and authenticity. While qualifications and experience are important, we equally value people who genuinely care, build meaningful relationships, and are committed to making a lasting difference in the lives of participants and their families.

We're looking for mentors who:


  • Are positive role models with a genuine passion for supporting others.
  • Lead with empathy, patience, and respect.
  • Build trust through honesty, consistency, and reliability.
  • Can remain calm, resilient, and professional in challenging situations.
  • Are confident communicating with participants, families, schools, and other professionals.
  • Are committed to learning, personal growth, and delivering trauma-informed support.
  • Believe every participant deserves the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential.
  • Take pride in representing Young Leaders Youth Services within the community.
  • Willing to travel and provide support across Sydney, the Sutherland Shire, and the Illawarra region.
  • Demonstrates strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan engaging sessions in advance and complete clear, accurate, and professional case notes and reports.
  • Confident in building genuine, trusting relationships with participants while effectively supporting individuals with complex behaviours, trauma, and high support needs using a calm, person-centred, and trauma-informed approach.

Qualifications & Requirements

Our Founder strongly believes that when you invest in your team by planting seeds of hope, guidance, encouragement, and a positive workplace culture, they grow into confident mentors who are able to make a genuine and lasting difference in the lives of participants.

We know that meaningful change doesn't happen alone. It takes a united community of passionate people who lead with compassion, purpose, and integrity. When our team feels supported, valued, and empowered, that care naturally flows through to every young person and family we have the privilege of walking alongside.


To join our team, applicants should have:


  • A current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
  • A current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain one).
  • A National Police Check.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • A current Australian Driver Licence and access to a reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle.
  • The legal right to work in Australia.
  • Relevant qualifications in Community Services, Youth Work, Disability, Social Work, or a related field (or a willingness to study).
  • Experience working with young people, people with disability, or vulnerable members of the community is highly regarded.
  • A commitment to upholding the values, mission, and culture of Young Leaders Youth Services every day
