Providing in-school support and mentoring can significantly impact young people by offering guidance, encouragement, and resources to help them thrive.
Here’s how we can implement effective support and mentoring programs in schools:
Create a Mentorship Program
• Collaborate with schools to establish a structured mentorship initiative.
• Pair students with mentors, such as teachers, older students, or community volunteers.
• Organise both one-on-one and group mentoring sessions.
• Focus on goal setting, career guidance, and personal growth.
Provide Academic Support & Tutoring:
• Offer after-school or lunchtime tutoring sessions.
• Host workshops to improve study skills and offer homework assistance.
• Support students struggling with literacy, numeracy, or exam prep.
• Collaborate with teachers to identify students who need additional help.
Offer Well-being & Mental Health Workshops:
• Provide workshops on resilience, stress management, and self-care.
• Create safe spaces for students to discuss mental health issues.
• Invite guest speakers who share stories of overcoming adversity.
• Include activities that promote mindfulness and emotional intelligence.
Assist students in building resumes and preparing for interviews.
Teach important life skills like financial literacy, communication, and leadership.
Organise career fairs, workplace tours, and talks from industry professionals.
Support students in applying for internships, apprenticeships, or higher education.
Train older students to become peer mentors for younger students.
Encourage mentorship through buddy systems or leadership programs.
Set up discussion groups where students can share challenges and provide mutual support.
Work closely with school staff to incorporate mentoring into student support services.
Engage parents and caregivers in workshops focused on supporting young people. Partner with local businesses to provide internships and volunteer opportunities.
